Starting 12 Feb 2026, ZYM has officially upgraded our network to 5G+ (Standalone)! This enhancement is designed to provide you with significantly faster speeds and a more robust, superior connection for all your digital needs.
For users currently on a 5G plan but still using a 4G SIM card
✅ We will begin sending out invitations via email or SMS starting 12 Feb 2026. These messages will guide you on where to replace your older 4G SIM card with a new 5G-Ready SIM. To make this transition as smooth as possible, the SIM replacement is entirely free if completed by 31 March 2026 .
For users currently on a 5G plan and are already using a 5G SIM card
✅ No SIM swap is required on your part! Your network will automatically upgrade to 5G+ in stages, with all updates expected to be complete by 7 March 2026. We appreciate your patience as we bring these faster speeds to your device.

Because it’s hard to tell a 4G and 5G SIM apart just by looking at them, that is why we’re notifying you via email or SMS that if you're required to make the SIM replacement.
Your SIM card type depends on when you joined ZYM Mobile. While newer subscribers already have 5G-ready SIMs, some of our earlier members may still be using 4G versions.
The good news? You can upgrade to a 5G SIM for free before 31 March 2026, even if you are currently on a 4G plan, or you have no intention to upgrade to 5G.

🛜 5G+ (5G Standalone), is the final, dedicated architecture for 5G technology.
The initial 5G network you are having is under Non-Standalone (NSA) networks that relied on the existing 4G core network for control (like the network's main computer). 5G SA completely separates from 4G by using a new, dedicated 5G Core (5GC). It's this dedicated 5G infrastructure (sometimes called "True 5G") that finally unlocks all the advanced features of the technology.
🛜 5G+ network deploys the 700 MHz spectrum. This low-band frequency significantly improves coverage in high-rise buildings, underground areas (like MRT tunnels), and remote regions, increasing signal strength by up to 40% in challenging locations.

Here's a breakdown of what you can generally expect:
Standard 5G (typically low-band): Offers better coverage but speeds are often only moderately faster than 4G LTE, often ranging from 50 Mbps to 250 Mbps in real-world conditions.
✅ 5G+ (High-Speed Mid-band and mmWave): This is where you see the biggest speed jumps. 5G+ can offer speeds that are several times faster than standard 5G.
✅ Reported speeds are often in the range of 300 Mbps to over 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) for downloads.

The distinction between 5G Standalone (SA) and 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) hinges on their core network dependency:
🛜 5G NSA (Non-Standalone): This is a transitional phase. It utilizes the existing 4G Core network (EPC) to anchor its control and signaling functions. While it adds 5G radio access to boost data speeds, its capabilities are still limited by the underlying 4G foundation.
🛜 5G SA (Standalone): This is the final, true 5G architecture. It operates fully independently using a brand-new, cloud-native 5G Core (5GC).
Unlocking Full 5G Capability
The complete separation from 4G is what makes the difference. 5G SA is the only deployment that unlocks the full promise of the technology, delivering:
✅ Ultra-Low Latency: Essential for mission-critical applications like autonomous vehicles and real-time industrial automation.
✅ Massive Device Support: Ability to connect exponentially more devices simultaneously.
✅ Advanced Features: Enabling services like Network Slicing (creating dedicated, tailored network segments) and Voice over New Radio (VoNR)

Yes, upgrading to a true 5G SIM card is required to fully access and benefit from 5G+ in Singapore.
While your current 5G SIM works with the initial 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) network (which is still anchored to the 4G core), the new 5G+ is built on the advanced 5G Standalone (SA) architecture with a completely new, dedicated core network.
✅ The specialized 5G SIM is essential because it holds the necessary security credentials and network features to properly register onto the new 5G SA core.
✅ The upgrade ensures you can unlock the full potential of 5G+, including game-changing features like ultra-low latency, network slicing, and maximum speeds.

⭐ Yes, you absolutely must use a 5G device with the True 5G SIM to access the high speeds and low latency of the 5G+ network.
🛜 It depends. Most 5G-compatible devices will continue to display "5G," but a small number of devices will show the "5G+" network indicator.
⭐ Using an app like NetMonster may confirm that you're on 5G+ (5G SA) or 5G (NSA) network.
🛜 If you are currently on a 5G plan, please note that you MUST exchange your SIM card for a true 5G SIM to maintain 5G network access.
This is due to an IMDA REGULATION that requires the older 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) network to be ceased islandwide by Q1 2026.
What this means for you:
✅ If you are on a 5G plan, your current SIM card is only compatible with the retiring NSA network. To connect to the permanent, advanced 5G+ (Standalone) network, you need the new 5G SIM, which holds the necessary credentials. Failure to upgrade the SIM will result in a fall-back to 4G service.

✅ If you are on a 4G plan, no immediate action is needed, and you will continue to enjoy 4G service. However, if you decide to upgrade to 5G+ one day, you will then be required to switch to the new 5G SIM. So, it is better to make the switch asap.
✅ Yes. Singapore's 5G network rollout is among the most advanced globally. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has driven operators to achieve widespread 5G Standalone (SA) coverage. We had achieved over 95% nationwide 5G SA coverage ahead of the regulatory target.
However, as we are in the transition, you may expect to continue to see 5G NSA connectivity if you are under MRT Tunnel or underground places.

🛜 Network slicing is a key feature of 5G SA. It allows the network to be logically divided into dedicated "slices" tailored for specific needs.
Though such features are not enabled in ZYM yet.

The short answer is YES.
Coverage Targets: IMDA set regulatory targets for the two initial nationwide 5G SA networks to achieve 95% outdoor coverage by the end of Q1 2026 (for Singtel). That includes all Singtel MVNO, such as ZYM Mobile.
